More water management funding for farmers

2nd May 2024

More water management funding for farmers has been introduced. Last month the government announced The Farming Recovery Fund to support farmers affected by winter and spring flooding. The fund offers grants of between £500 and £25,000 for farmers who have suffered uninsurable damage as a result.

On the 22nd April further funding was announced to help manage water resources. £1.6 million of funding is available to investigate water management in local areas, to help protect against the impact of drought over the next 25 years, helping to build resilience and in turn safeguard food security.

Projects could include multi-farm reservoirs, waste water recycling, trading and sharing schemes, and applications opened on Monday 22nd April. Groups of two or more neighbouring farms are eligible to apply and must do so before midnight on 16th June for a chance to be considered for the funding.
