Missed the Self Assessment Tax Return deadline?

If you have missed the 31st January 2024 Self Assessment Tax Return deadline (one of the 605,849 who did) for your 2022/23 tax return, you may be unsure as to what to do next. We are here to help you submit your late return and answer any questions you may have on the matter.
Penalties
If you missed the deadline for submission of your tax return for the year ending 5th April 2023, HMRC will issue you with a £100 penalty.
Your tax return will still need to be submitted. If you do not submit after 3 months, additional penalties will accrue as per below:
- 3 Months late: A daily penalty of £10 per day, up to a maximum of £900
- 6 Months late: A penalty of £300 (or 5% of the tax owing if this is greater)
- 12 Months late: A further penalty of £300 (or 5% of the tax owing if this is greater)
Penalties for the late payment
- 5% of tax unpaid after 30 days
- Another 5% of tax unpaid after 6 months
- Another 5% of tax unpaid after 12 months
