Gift aid small donations limit to rise

9th November 2018

Following the budget on 29th October 2018, the Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme limit has been increased to donations of £30 or less from 6 April 2019.

The scheme was introduced for Charities who accept small donations to still claim for Gift Aid despite not collecting the usual declaration paperwork from the donor. This has been beneficial for Charities such as Churches where it would be impractical on a Sunday service to ask donor’s to fill out a declaration form.

Currently, the scheme only applies to donations of £20 or less, meaning that if a donor donates more than this, they need to fill out a Gift Aid declaration, or Gift Aid cannot be claimed.

The raising of this limit to £30 is likely to be welcome news to many Charities, meaning that more of their donations fall under this scheme and therefore less paperwork burden.

It would be worthwhile to note that whilst this was announced in the Autumn Budget, should we not get a successful Brexit deal, there may be a Spring Budget in 2019 which may alter the Autumn Budget announcements.
