First Quarter-End: Making Tax Digital for Income Tax
5th June 2026
One month until the first Making Tax Digital for Income Tax quarter-end, are you ready?
The first quarterly reporting period for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax (MTD IT) ends in less than a month:
- 5 July 2026 for standard quarters
- 30 June 2026 for those elected to use calendar quarters
The first submission deadline follows shortly after on 7 August 2026, so now is the time to ensure your digital records and systems are fully prepared.
What you should do before the quarter-end:
- Set up compliant software – Make sure your bookkeeping system is MTD IT compatible and correctly configured.
- Use a dedicated business bank account – This keeps personal and business transactions separate and will help reduce errors.
- Record all income and expenses accurately – Ensure everything for the quarter is entered and categorised correctly.
- Complete your MTD IT sign‑up with HMRC – Even if you are mandated into the scheme, you must still complete the online sign‑up process.
Understanding the submission deadline
With only a short window between the quarter end and the 7 August 2026 submission deadline, being organised now will save significant pressure later.
Preparing early ensures you’ll have time to:
- Resolve software issues
- Correct any bookkeeping errors
