Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier Opens for Expressions of Interest

Defra and the Rural Payments Agency have launched a new process allowing farmers and land managers in England to express an interest in selected Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier (CSHT) opportunities. The scheme aims to support environmental improvements, woodland management, agroforestry, and the protection of historic features across the countryside.

The current expression of interest process covers four key areas:

  • Scheduled monument management
  • Species-rich grassland
  • Agroforestry
  • Woodland improvement

However, submitting an expression of interest does not guarantee that an applicant will receive a Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier agreement. The process is intended to identify potential demand and assess eligibility before any formal application stage begins.
