Charity Banking Motion
26th May 2026
We’re pleased to see an Early Day Motion (EDM) submitted by MPs highlighting the urgent need to improve banking services for charities.
We have seen first-hand the concerns raised by our charity clients, many of whom are experiencing significant issues with their banks. These include accounts being frozen or closed unexpectedly, difficulties opening new accounts, and increasingly complex identity and compliance checks. These challenges are adding administrative burden and introducing unnecessary risk for organisations already working under pressure.
The EDM calls on the Government to work with the FCA and UK banks to improve banking services for charities. It proposes simplifying compliance and identity verification processes, ensuring bank staff are better trained to understand how charities operate, and preventing accounts from being closed or restricted without clear justification.
While the motion may or may not be formally debated in the House of Commons, it plays an important role in highlighting these issues, putting them on record, and building support across Parliament.
We hope this increased attention will help drive meaningful change for our charity clients and support the vital work they do. Charities are often the backbone of our communities, and they deserve a banking system that enables and supports their impact.
