Trucks Cartel Claim Given Green Light

13th July 2022

The Competition Appeal Tribunal delivered a landmark judgement 8th June 2022 allowing the Road Haulage Association (RHA) to proceed with its collective claim on behalf of hauliers seeking damages from some of the world’s largest truck manufacturers over their alleged involvement in a price-fixing cartel operating between 1997 and 2011.

Over 18,000 operators have already joined or are planning to join the collective claim. Once the terms of the collective proceedings order have been confirmed by the Competition Appeal Tribunal there will be an opportunity for further operators to join the claim, with many more firms expected to do so. If the claim is successful this will undoubtedly be good news for the operators affected, however given the current significant cost pressures facing businesses within the sector, many would welcome the process being expedited.
