The Post-Budget Forum: Whitings LLP x Taylor Rose Solicitors
19th November 2024We recently visited the offices of Taylor Rose Solicitors to co-host a Post-Budget Forum at their Peterborough office on 18 November 2024, overlooking the fabulous Ferry Meadows country park.
At the event Nicholas Johnson, Partner at Taylor Rose and I lead the discussions with those in attendance from the local business community, professional advisors and interested parties.
Some Key Points Discussed Include:
- Employer’s National Insurance Contributions,
- Inheritance Tax Reliefs,
- Changes to Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) and the Property Market,
- Affects and Opportunities for Businesses.
We touched on some of the highlights from the recent Budget. This included the rise of employer’s National Insurance and the immediate effect that this has had with businesses. We also considered how this is likely to affect them going forward, in terms of:
- Additional costs,
- Recruitment plans,
- Raising finance
- Business structures.
Discussions moved on to the changes to the Inheritance Tax (IHT) reliefs which are due to come into effect from both April 2026 and April 2027, with these changes affecting not only the farming industry, but also other businesses and individuals.
We were talking about how the changes to Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) will affect the property market. This included the implications have already been seen with lending rates and how things are being perceived on a short and medium-term basis.
It was interesting hearing from those who will be affected by this Budget and the opportunities that will also come from the announcements.
Our Final Thoughts
