MTD delayed further is not the case

3rd May 2018

HMRC have recently issued further information regarding MTD , stating prioritising EU exit work is delaying plans to introduce further digital services for individuals. This however ONLY affects simple assessment and real time tax code changes, HMRC are still striving to encourage further uptake of personal tax accounts.

Simple assessment was intended to take two million people out of self-assessment and ease HMRCs work load however there have been problems with rolling this out so it has been delayed to ensure the software works.

HMRC launched the voluntary Making Tax Digital for business service for income tax on 15 March and says it is on track to introduce the mandatory service for VAT for those with a taxable turnover above the VAT threshold from April 2019, with a live pilot just starting.
