MP’s call for Government to Introduce Essential User Rebate

3rd August 2022

The All-Party Parliamentary Group for Road Freight and Logistics has today (27 July 2022) urged the Government to approve the introduction of an Essential User Rebate of no less than 15 pence per litre for operators within the logistics sector to combat the effects of soaring fuel prices and inflation.

The call has come after a survey issued by the same group found that 92% of hauliers believe the 5 pence per litre reduction in fuel duty has had little impact in halting the erosion of their margins, with only 3.5% of those surveyed believing they will remain profitable without further assistance in this area.

Clearly the introduction of such a rebate would go some way to easing the pressure on a sector that has faced a plethora of challenges in recent years, the Government must act swiftly to ensure that it supports an industry that plays a vital role in driving the UK economy forwards.
