Employers Pension Duties For Seasonal Workers

29th July 2024

The harvest season is now in full swing. Are you aware of the pension duties that you are required to perform for each seasonal worker?

Whether an employee works for a few days, weeks, or months, each employee needs to be assessed for each period that they work for you.

To assess your employees, you will need to check the following:
  • Are they aged between 22 and State Pension age?
  • Do they earn over £192 a week or £833 per month?

If the answer to both is yes, you will need to enrol them into the company auto enrolment pension scheme. If the answer is yes to one or neither, you will need to provide them with a pension letter telling them of the assessment and what their next options are.

Postponement

You are allowed to use the pension postponement for employees that are eligible to be auto enrolled. This can delay the enrolment into the company for up to 3 months, but you will need to provide the employee with a pension letter.
