Construction Projects: Use of cloud accounting helps with BIM.

Are you part of a construction project team? There is increasing publicity being given to the integration of Building Information Modelling (BIM) into construction projects. Since 4 April 2016, any firm wanting to be considered for public sector construction work has to be BIM level 2 compliant. Recent surveys have indicated that less than 50% of respondents are using BIM. Those that are will, it is anticipated, be benefiting from the advantages which it can be bring. This includes the control of quality, the coordination of components, mapping of the build process, earlier provision of information, and greater client involvement. Coordination between different disciplines should improve leading to a clearer understanding of complex situations.

There are costs associated with BIM, including investment in upgrading hardware, software licensing, the costs of employing personnel trained in the BIM software or the training costs for existing personnel. The volume of record-keeping also increases. However, the use of cloud software may ease the cost issue.

For those regularly involved in larger projects, BIM may be an area appropriate for adoption.
