Beware ‘VAT Repayment Allowance’ Scam Letters!
13th April 2026
A couple of our clients have recently received ‘VAT repayment allowance’ scam letters, supposedly from HMRC. At first glance, these letters appear quite convincing, even providing a genuine link to VAT manuals for HMRC staff. Perhaps the biggest give away is the website the letter redirects you to (i.e. not starting with the usual gov.uk URL).
HMRC has confirmed they did not send these letters out and they should be disregarded to avoid sharing information to scammers.

What to do if you have fallen victim
If you have fallen victim and provided information, contact the HMRC security team at phishing@hmrc.gov.uk and include brief details of what you have disclosed (but do not give personal details in the email).
