2019 Growth: Missing in action?

As another year draws to a close, local SME businesses will be forgiven for looking forward to drawing a line under it. With 2019 sales growth barely nudging 1%, it has been a year of focusing on not slipping backwards, rather than the usual mantra of continually signing up new accounts.  When commentators talk about the damage Brexit uncertainty causes, this is the outcome.

Drilling down into the detail, all sectors have suffered. Agriculture, in particular, is struggling, with some farmers contracting for the 6th year in a row. Manufacturing & the Service sector faired least bad.

As business owners begin to think about how to set their sales budget for 2020, this exercise is a little trickier than usual this year. Perhaps wait until after the election, after 1st January, after Brexit………..
