How To Pay Your Self Assessment Tax
8th January 2024‘How to pay your Self Assessment Tax’ will be a question that many people are asking with the payment deadline of 31st January 2024 just around the corner.
It is important to ensure your payment is made by the 31st January to avoid any late payment interest which HMRC charge daily.
For same day payments you can pay via:
- HMRC app.
- Logging into your HMRC self-assessment tax account.
- Your banking app or via online banking.
- Using telephone banking.
- You can also go into your bank or building society, if paying this way, you will need your paying in slip from HMRC.
- Corporate Credit Card, there will be a fee for using this payment method.
You can also pay by the below methods, however, please be aware these payments take longer than a day to be received and banked by HMRC, so if approaching the 31st January we would recommend avoiding these methods:
- Bacs payments.
- Direct Debit.
- Cheque via post.
When you come to pay your personal tax liability you will need your 10-digit unique taxpayer reference (UTR), this is shown on page 1 of your self-assessment tax return, followed by the letter K. For example, 0123456789K. You can also contact your Whitings LLP contact for your UTR.
